Review – Hot Toys Christopher Reeve as Superman

One of the most anticipated figures in recent memory is the one I’m about to review, Hot Toys’ rendition of Christopher Reeve as Superman. Many of you will remember that Hot Toys hinted at this figure some time back, but it seemed like an eternity before they finally gave us some concrete information in May of 2011 that the figure would be on its way. As expected, this figure is well worth the wait. There are technically two versions – the regular and special editions. The only difference, however, is the kryptonite necklace included with the special edition. I’ll be reviewing that figure today.

Hot Toys announces Batman: The Dark Knight Rises collectibles

As expected (and anticipated!), Hot Toys has announced that they will be producing collectibles from next summer’s The Dark Knight Rises, the final chapter in the Nolan Batman trilogy. While 1:6 figures were expected, Hot Toys has also added that 1:4 figures are in the pipeline! Excellent news from an excellent company, and I personally can’t wait to see what they have to offer.

Review – Hot Toys Batman/Bruce Wayne Batsuit (Batman Begins)

Six years after the movie’s release, Hot Toys continues to release – with great success, I might add – figures from 2005′s Batman Begins. The latest edition, dubbed Batsuit Begins, was originally offered exclusively at 2011 summer conventions, but was later made available to the general public via Sideshow Collectibles. This new 12″ figure captures Christian Bale as Batman, but in a new way not seen in previous Hot Toys Batman releases. While Batman in his regular suit can be displayed, the real draw (for me anyway) is the inclusion of Bruce Wayne’s prototype Batsuit. Not to mention a killer portrait of the actor, Bale. Hot Toys never fails to impress with their figures, and as is evident by their recently-revealed movie Superman packaging they continue to raise the bar for figure packaging as well. The Christopher Reeve Superman will come in a large “S-shield” packaging that looks to make a nice companion display piece with the figure itself. Click the thumbnail for a larger image.

Gallery Update – Women of the DCU Series 3 Supergirl bust (Amanda Conner)

The latest release in DC Direct’s Women of the DC Universe bust collection is the “lovely” Supergirl, breaking through chains and ready to kick some arse. Supergirl measures 5.5″ tall and is limited to 3,500 pieces. Here’s the thing. I love Amanda Conner’s work and style. Absolutely love it. Jack Mathews has done some of DC Direct’s best sculpting (look at any of the Cover Girls of the DCU statues for proof). And Supergirl…well, she’s always been a favorite of mine. But I can say without reservation that this statue is the worst of the 30+ busts released for the WOTDCU line so far. Amanda Conner’s artwork is almost literally exploding with Supergirl’s power, but the final sculpt looks like an anorexic wearing a Farrah Fawcett wig. Sorry DC Direct…but this is one of the most disappointing purchases in recent memory.

As you all know, Sideshow Collectibles acquired rights to the DC Comics license this year, and has already announce the amaaaaazing looking for early 2012. Want a peek at what else Sideshow might be offering? Then you HAVE to take a look at this inside look at the Sideshow site. Oodles of concept art including Adam Hughes’ Catwoman, Wonder Woman Premium Format, Batman Legendary Scale Statue and much, much more. This video has me absolutely giddy for Sideshow’s acquisition of the license!

Eaglemoss presents DC Chess Figures

You may have heard that DC has put an end to the DC Super Hero Collection Magazine line, but that doesn’t mean they’re completely done with DC Comics. Released a few pieces at a time, the Chess figures will make up all the necessary pieces for a good ol’ fashioned game of the black and white, and will cost you around $15 a piece. As of now, Batman (white king), Robin (white bishop), Joker (black king) and Commissioner Gordon (white pawn) have been announced.
