Review – Heroes of the DC Universe Blackest Night Hal Jordan Minibust

Heroes of the DC Universe Blackest Night Hal Jordan Minibust

DC Direct’s plan for the Blackest Night minibust line was to release one per month throughout 2011. While they fell behind and didn’t release the first (Black Hand) until March 2nd, Hal Jordan followed suit on March 9th and #3, Star Sapphire, is due in two short days. Hal might not live up to Black Hand’s first impression, but he’s no slouch, either. Read on for a full review.

Review – Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series Batman Demon & Scarecrow

Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series Batman Demon & Scarecrow

In December of 2010, Hot Toys celebrated their longevity in the collectibles market by hosting their 10th Anniversary Exhibition in Tokyo. While the event itself looked to be a lot of fun, with product announcements and the showcasing of their works to date, the event was enhanced with the offering of a handful of very limited exclusives at the show. One of these offerings was a two-pack of figures from Batman Begins and part of the 12″ Movie Masterpiece series. The set included Batman Demon and Scarecrow, and given that Batman Begins was released five years before, I think the announcement took us all by complete surprise, Anyone that’s picked up one of Hot Toys figures – whether from The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Alien or any number of other movie properties – will know that Hot Toys is the undisputed master of the 1:6 scale figure. Review – Heroes of the DC Universe Blackest Night Black Hand Bust

Heroes of the DC Universe Black Hand Bust

DC Direct’s plan for the Blackest Night minibust line was to release one per month throughout 2011. Well, as is often the case with DC Direct, delays happened and it’s just now in March that we’re seeing the first – Black Hand. Thankfully, Hal Jordan was released last week (he was supposed to be the first) and Star Sapphire appears to still be on track for March 23rd, so with any luck we’ll be back on schedule come April. I certainly hope that’s the case – if Black Hand is any indication, we’re in for a real treat with this series! Read on for a full review.

Review – DC Universe Action League Series 2

DC Universe Action League Series 2

Mattel’s Action League line continues on with its second series of figures. The first DC Universe wave was released nearly two months ago and has had relatively good success, and Mattel’s Toy Fair showings give indication that this line will be around to stay for a while. Series 2 includes four new sets – Batman & The Joker, John Stewart & Atrocitus, Low & Tomar-Re and Prometheus & Green Arrow. Following the announcement of DC Classics wave 17 being a Blackest Night series, and now with the inclusion of two more themed sets, it’s apparent that Mattel is putting a greater focus on the Blackest Night storyline. Read on for a brief review of this new series of figures.

Review – DC Direct Supergirl Mini-Statue

DC Direct Supergirl Mini-Statue

Due to time constraints I’ve decided to take a lighter approach to some of the reviews I do for this site. Let’s face it – most of you don’t want to read a thousand-word essay about a figure or a statue, you want to see a few details, potential issues and let the pics do most of the talking. The first review in this new format is the recently-released Supergirl Mini-Statue, a smaller reissue of the classic Michael Turner release from 2005. Read on for the full details and pics.

Review – Cover Girls of the DC Universe Batgirl

Cover Girls of the DC Universe Batgirl

From the moment DC Direct announced the Cover Girls of the DC Universe Batgirl statue in March of 2010, it has been the source of conversation, debate, questioning and wavering. No one was questioning the choice to add Batgirl to the Cover Girls line, but what collectors were discussing was the choice of poses and, even more so, expression given to this version of Barbara Gordon. I have been on the fence about this statue since then – read on to find out why.

DC Universe Online Catwoman Statue

Less than two weeks ago, Sony Entertainment released one of the most anticipated games of 2010…albeit a bit later than expected. To coincide with the game’s release, DC Direct released their first statues based on the game – Batman and Catwoman. This pair of Gothamites are the first of many to come based on the Massively Multiplayer Online game.
